How to choose the right gearbox?
Check whether the photos and gearbox type (helical, bevel, worm, planetary, etc.) match.
Verify that the part/OE number or standard reference corresponds to your requirement.
Confirm the target machine or vehicle model, its duty cycle, and use year.
Finally, check the gearbox’s ratio, input/output shaft diameters, mounting dimensions, and allowable backlash to ensure accurate fit.

Functions
- Power transmission & speed conversion — Transfers tractor PTO input (commonly 540 / 1000 RPM) through a reduction gearbox to the tiller rotor, lowering output speed while increasing torque to provide steady rotor speed and effective soil cultivation under varying load and ground conditions.
- Durability & protection — Robust housings (cast iron / alloy steel) with corrosion- and abrasion-resistant finishes, plus effective seals and breathers, keep soil, grit and moisture out to protect gears and bearings and extend service life.
- Safety / overload protection — Torque-limiting clutches, shear bolts or slip-clutch devices are used to interrupt drive when the rotor is overloaded or jammed, preventing damage to the gearbox and tractor driveline.

- Seedbed preparation & cultivation — Primary use is mixing and pulverizing soil to prepare uniform seedbeds.

Short Maintenance & Inspection Checklist
Check oil level and condition regularly — Most rotary tiller gearboxes use SAE 80W-90 (or equivalent) gear oil; follow OEM interval (commonly ~50 hours or manufacturer guidance) for checks and changes.
Inspect seals, shaft keys and tine/knife fixings before each season or after heavy use.
Reset or replace overload devices (shear bolts, slip clutches) after any overload event and log occurrences to diagnose repeat faults.
Verify compatibility before ordering — Confirm PTO speed/type, spline size, shaft diameter, mounting pattern and reduction ratio to match your tractor and tiller model.
